Safe growing near powerlines
Safe growing near powerlines is Aurora’s program to help you choose the type of trees you plant beneath powerlines on your property. Trees and shrubs must stay well below your powerlines – if they grow too high you need to trim or replace them. (To find out more about tree trimming, view maintaining trees near powerlines.)
To avoid continual pruning, consider replacing unsuitable trees with a more appropriate species. Always check with your local nursery before selecting a tree to ensure that it will not exceed 3.5 metres in height when mature.

Trees and underground cables
Plants' root systems can interfere with underground power cables. If your area has an underground power supply, remember that low voltage cables are buried approximately 500 mm below the surface and high voltage cables are buried approximately 900 mm. If you're in doubt of where cables are laid, contact 'Dial before you dig' on 1100.
For information on plants that will not interfere with underground cables, talk to your local plant nursery.
