About High Speed Telecommunications

Aurora Energy has been involved in telecommunications since 2001 when a joint venture between AAPT, Hydro and Aurora was developed to establish the communications retailer, Tastel.

Aurora was also recently involved in a commercial and technical trial of the Broadband Over Powerline (BPL) innovation. The BPL technology connected more than 1,000 homes in Southern and Northern Tasmania.

Aurora is a key consortium member of the TasCOLT fibre to the premises trial, taking on the role of network construction activities and network management.

In 2006 Aurora reviewed it's Telecommunications strategy and developed a dedicated Telecommunications group with the purpose of managing Aurora's core telecommunications requirements and commercialising additional network capacity.

Also in 2006, Aurora won the tender to construct and manage the Tasmanian Research and Education Network on behalf of the University of Tasmania.

Aurora was recently nominated as a supplier of Dark Fibre services to Tasmanian Government agencies across Tasmania, under the Networking Tasmania II contract.

Aurora currently supplies Dark Fibre and Layer 2 Managed Ethernet services to Government and Corporate clients in Tasmania.
