Direct Debit discount

Banking arrangements

Direct Debit may be used with all participating financial institutions. Accounts which issue statements, such as a cheque account or a statement savings account are eligible. The statement is your accurate record of payments made. Some passbook accounts and investment accounts are not included in the service. Some financial institutions may charge a fee for managing direct debits or defaults that may occur. If in doubt, check with your financial institution.

Electricity bills

You will receive your usual electricity bill and the amount owing will be debited on or soon after the due date. If the due date falls on a weekend the amount will be debited the next working day. You must have sufficient funds in your account on the payment-due date shown on the bill. If funds are not available on two occasions we may have to cancel the arrangement. Any fees which Aurora incurs for insufficient funds will be charged to you.

Advance payment

This allows you to nominate an amount (not less than $15) to pay at regular intervals decided by you. These instalments will be credited to your Aurora account. You may defer or alter this amount at any time. You will still pay the balance of the bill on the due date, but your regular payments will mean you'll receive much smaller bills.

How advance payment works

You nominate the regular amount you wish to pay in advance, then nominate the frequency for the deductions (weekly, fortnightly, monthly). When you receive your statement it will show the total of the bill less the payments, so you'll only have to pay the balance.

Applying for Direct Debit

To pay by Direct Debit simply complete and sign the authority form. All your details are kept in strict confidence. These terms will commence from the day you nominate on the form. You may choose Direct Debit from the due date on your Aurora bill or advance payments from the date you choose, or you may choose both these options, i.e. regular advance payments and the bill balance to be debited on the due date.

Terms and conditions for the Direct Debit Discount

A discount will be allowed on statements which have charges for electricity usage and show a direct debit receipt in the transactions.

The discount does not apply for:

  • direct debits by credit card
  • payment plans
  • a direct debit payment 'dishonoured' in the period of the statement.
  • a 'pink reminder notice' for the last statement

The discount will be a daily rate – currently 5c + GST per day – calculated on the period of the statement. If the Direct Debit commenced since the start date of the period, the calculation will be from the Direct Debit start date to the end date of the statement period. The statement will display the amount under 'Other Items: Direct debit discount - x days @ 5cents + GST'.
