A global women’s empowerment charity has opened its doors in Hobart thanks to the support of Aurora Energy and the Tasmanian Community Fund.
Dress for Success promotes the economic independence of women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and life.
Founded 20 years ago and now operating in more than 150 locations across the world, Dress for Success has now been established in Hobart to help empower Tasmanian women to break down employment barriers and seek better futures.
Using clothes donated by the public, clients are provided with a styling appointment and walk away with a new wardrobe for their job interview. Clients receive up to a week’s worth of work appropriate attire if they are successful.
“It is about so much more than just the clothes. Dress for Success empowers women by building their confidence and self-esteem. Having a great outfit that you feel comfortable and confident in helps you put your best foot forward in an interview environment,” said Amanda French, Founder and General Manager of Dress for Success Hobart.
Aurora Energy CEO Rebecca Kardos said, “as a key employer in Tasmania, we recognise the importance of providing opportunities to all Tasmanians, especially so when it is someone’s first attempt at finding work. We are confident Dress for Success will encourage more women to secure employment by equipping them with the confidence and support network to do so.”
Dress for Success Hobart received funding from the Tasmanian Community Fund through their ‘Increasing workforce engagement’ targeted funding round.
“We saw the potential in this project and could see that it met a demonstrated need in our community. We are pleased to be able to support Dress for Success Hobart to get established,” said Sally Darke, Chair, Tasmanian Community Fund.
“We are so thrilled to have the support of the Tasmanian Community Fund and Aurora Energy to get our programs up and running and can’t wait to report back on the impact of this initiative and the outcomes we’ve been able to achieve together,” said Amanda.
Dress for Success Hobart will host 100 guests at its official launch party this evening at the new office and boutique.
