Gas is a great complement to your electricity. It can be used to offer the convenience of instant hot water, precision cooking and fast heating. You can also use it outdoors for barbecues, balcony or patio heating, swimming pool heating or hot tubs.
The appeal of gas varies, just as the appeal of electricity does – your lifestyle will always be a factor when it comes to energy choices.
As with any type of energy, how much it costs will depend on how much you use!
It's important to know that...
Gas is measured in joules, and on your bill we will show your consumption in megajoules (MJ, or million joules).
Daily supply charges | 61.17 ¢/day |
Energy (all units) | 5.1915 ¢/MJ |
(Our gas rates are current from April 2023 and include GST).

If things change in the gas market, such as the cost of getting the gas to you, we may need to amend
the rates. If this is the case, we will let you know in advance!
If you're moving into a house with gas simply fill in our connection form or give us a call on 1300 13 2003. Fees will vary between $110 and $275.
We love gas, and we want to make it as easy as possible for you to use gas in your home. We’re the only energy retailer with both electricity and gas right here in one place and that means you still only have to deal with one energy retailer!
If you want a new gas connection, then Tas Gas Networks will need to install it. They will charge a connection fee that is based on the type of appliances you are planning to run: if you are going to run ducted heating, flued heating or hot water, it will cost $330, if you aren’t going to run any of those, it will cost $1650.
If you want to sign up for a new connection, you can check if your home is in a gas zone.
Gas is super safe and reliable, but occasionally things go wrong. It’s really important that you understand any potential dangers and what to do in an emergency.
If it’s an emergency now
Call TasGas Networks’ Gas Emergency Response Centre on 180 2111, or if you’re using a mobile, call 131 909. Call 000 if a life is in danger.
