Solar panels last 25–30 years with minimal upkeep. Organise cleaning and inspection regularly, monitor output, and get annual professional checks to maintain efficiency and extend lifespan.
Lifespan of solar panels
Most solar panels last between 25 to 30 years. Over time, they will gradually reduce their ability to generate electricity, known as the degradation rate. On average, high-quality solar panels degrade at a rate of about 0.5% per year. This means that after 25 years, they should still operate at around 88% of their original capacity.
Solar panels require minimal maintenance, but regular checks can help ensure they operate efficiently:
Ensure your panels are cleaned and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications. However, generally it is recommended that your panels are cleaned 2-4 times a year to remove dust, dirt, and debris. Rain can help with this, but manual cleaning may also be necessary.
Use a soft brush and non-abrasive cleaner. Be sure they're cleaned them early in the morning or late in the evening when the panels are cool.
Please note, that you should hire a professional to clean your solar panels if you're not comfortable to do so. If you proceed, you should ensure you take all appropriate safety precautions necessary.
By following these maintenance steps, you can help ensure your solar panels remain efficient and extend their lifespan.
