Understanding your energy bill

Your Aurora Energy bill is available in aurora+, along with our 'Predict a bill' feature. To help you understand your bill, let's break it down:

  • Account information: This includes your name, address, and account number. It’s how the utility company identifies you.
  • Billing period: The start and end dates for the period you’re being billed for, usually one month.
  • Electricity usage: Shows how much electricity you used during the billing period, measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh).
  • Supply charges: The cost of supplying electricity to your premises.
  • Delivery/transmission charges: Costs for delivering electricity to your home, including maintaining power lines and infrastructure.
  • Taxes and fees: Additional charges imposed by local, state, or federal governments.
  • Discounts: Any relevant discounts that have been applied to your bill.
  • Other charges: This is where you would find Power Hours credits if you signed up for a Power Hours event.

Identifying ways to reduce costs

On aurora+, you can track your energy usage in near real time. Test some of the options below to help reduce your energy costs and track any changes on aurora+.

  • Conduct an energy audit: Identify areas where you can improve energy efficiency, such as sealing drafts or upgrading insulation.
  • Adjust thermostat settings: Lowering your thermostat in winter and raising it in summer can significantly reduce energy usage.
  • Use energy-efficient appliances: Replace old appliances with Energy Star-rated models that use less energy.
  • Unplug devices: Unplug electronics when not in use to avoid ‘vampire loads’—electricity consumed by devices in standby mode.
  • Optimise lighting: Use LED bulbs and take advantage of natural light during the day.
  • Smart usage habits: Run dishwashers and washing machines with full loads and during off-peak hours to save on energy costs.

By utilising all the features on aurora+, better understanding your bill components, and making small changes to your energy usage habits, you can effectively reduce your energy costs using the aurora+ app. That means reducing bill stress by putting you in control.
