Aurora Energy is standing behind COTA Tasmania to help raise more awareness and understanding of elder abuse in the lead up to World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) 2024.
One in six Australians aged 65 or over living in the community is abused every year. They may be neglected, bullied, insulted, threatened, sexually or physically abused, financially abused, or stopped from seeing their friends.
COTA (Council on the Ageing) has been the voice of older Tasmanians for 60 years.
"Older people have the right to live with dignity and safety, just like people of every other age."
COTA acting CEO Brigid Wilkinson.
At Aurora Energy, our YES team assist customers who are experiencing family and domestic violence, including elder abuse, resulting in energy affordability issues.
We launched our Family and Domestic Violence policy in January 2023, with all frontline agents receiving training, including how to identify customers experiencing family and domestic violence and the treatment of immediate risk scenarios.
We pride ourselves on providing quality services and support to all our customers, particularly when they need it most. This policy was developed to provide a dedicated team to focus on assisting customers impacted in these types of situations.
“Our nationally-recognised Your Energy Support program has been lending a hand to those in need for almost a decade. This commitment to supporting our customers experiencing vulnerable circumstances was reinforced by the voluntary establishment of a family and domestic violence policy.”
Aurora Energy CEO Mr Clark said.
Tasmanians are encouraged to wear purple from 10-15 June to show their support for 'Lifelong Respect' in our community.
The Wear Purple Initiative is a new campaign by COTA Tasmania to help raise more awareness and understanding of elder abuse in the lead up to WEAAD, and throughout the whole year.
