Professor Mary O’Kane has resigned from her position as Aurora Energy Chair following the announcement she has been appointed Chair of the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO).
“It’s with great sadness that I step down as Chair of Aurora Energy after more than half a decade in the role,” Professor O’Kane said.
“Aurora Energy is an amazing Tasmanian owned and operated company that always has the best interests of Tasmanians at heart.
“I have witnessed significant change in my time as Director and Chair and I am proud of the difference Aurora Energy has been able make for our customers and the Tasmanian community.”
In taking on the role of AEMO Chair, Professor O’Kane is required to relinquish her duties with Aurora Energy. She was appointed Chair of the Tasmanian energy retailer in October 2018.
Aurora Energy CEO Nigel Clark thanked Professor O’Kane for her years of dedicated service.
“Mary has helped guide Aurora Energy with great intelligence and strategic insights that we know will serve AEMO well,” Mr Clark said.
“Her leadership has allowed Aurora Energy to grow and mature despite ongoing developments and challenges in the external environment. I wish her all the best for her future endeavours.”
Following the state election on 23 March 2024, a recruitment process to appoint a new Chair will commence.
In the interim, current Deputy Chair Keryn Nylander will take on the responsibilities of the outgoing Chair.
