Connect to aurora+ and Power Hours
One in three Tasmanian homes is now benefiting from having access to energy usage information at their fingertips.
Aurora Energy has confirmed there are more than 80,000 residential customers using aurora+, its digital channel designed to help Tasmanians better understand and control their energy costs.
The news comes as 70 per cent of Tasmanian residences and businesses have had an advanced (smart) meter installed, which is in line with the State Government’s commitment that the rollout will be complete by the end of 2026.
Aurora+ lets customers track their usage in dollars and kilowatt hours, and helps them conveniently manage their account from a smartphone, tablet or desktop computer to find efficiencies. It is available to anyone with an advanced (smart) meter on an eligible tariff and there is no fee to use it.
Aurora Energy CEO Nigel Clark said uptake of aurora+ was very pleasing.
“Aurora+ is an amazing tool that enables customers to better understand and control their energy costs – that’s why we would like as many Tasmanians to benefit from it as possible,” Mr Clark said.
“We’re excited that more than 80,000 Tasmanians are now taking advantage of aurora+ but we want more to benefit from it. The cheapest kilowatt of energy is the one you don’t use.
“Being able to see how and when you're using energy is powerful as it provides the proof to help change habits around the home to bring down energy usage.”
Advanced meters are the next generation of electricity meters and offer many more benefits to customers than older style basic meters, including remote reads to prevent estimated bills.
They can be leveraged to develop new modern products – like aurora+ – that empower customers to help keep energy costs down.
“Seventy per cent of our customer base now on an advanced meter is a significant milestone. We’re extremely proud of our ongoing investment in Tasmania, for Tasmanians, as we strive to make energy easy for the people of our home state,” Mr Clark said.
The announcement comes after the first ‘Power Hours’ event was held over the weekend.
Power Hours is a new offer that delivers value directly back to aurora+ residential customers in the form of free electricity. Each event gives them the opportunity to use unlimited electricity, free of charge in an available time slot of their choice.
“The first event was a raging success with more than 36,000 Tasmanians making the most of it and enjoying free electricity on Aurora Energy,” Mr Clark said.
“Aurora+ customers can expect this to become an ongoing feature of using the digital channel. It’s our way of saying thanks for being with us and giving back.”
Aurora Energy is fully owned by the people of Tasmania, based in Tasmania, employing Tasmanians. In the last financial year, the retailer contributed close to $1.9M in customer and community support, and all of its financial returns remain within the state and don’t flow back to foreign owned entities.
