Power Hours Made Easy

Rose is an aurora+ customer and has a few things to share about how she uses Power Hours. 

Rose lives in Southern Tasmania in a 1930s yellow weatherboard house.  With an older house, Rose knows just how easy it is for electricity costs to add up. That's why she makes the most of every Power Hours event, turning free electricity into an opportunity to tackle household chores and keep energy costs down. "I think Power Hours are brilliant". 

Rose recently won one of our social media competitions thanks to her clever tips for making the most of Power Hours. Her secret? Preparation.

Rather than waiting for her Power Hours slot to arrive, Rose plans ahead. She sets reminders on her phone and calendar, keeps a list of jobs ready to go, and thinks strategically about when she'll get the most value from her free electricity. "It all adds up, and by the end of the year you save quite a bit," she says.

Since using Power Hours, Rose has saved around $240 on her electricity bills. But for Rose, it's not just about the dollar figure. It's about using free electricity for the jobs that need doing anyway. Think loads of washing, running the dishwasher, charging household devices, preparing meals in the slow cooker or drying clothes on a rainy day. Those everyday tasks can quickly add up when you're doing them during Power Hours.

Rose is on a Peak and Off-Peak plan and has learned that earlier Power Hours times work best for her. "If the washing isn't quite finished, it doesn't run over into Peak times," she explains.

• Add your selected time slot to your calendars.
• Check the weather forecast and plan for colder days when electricity use may be higher.
• Create a list of jobs you want to complete during your Power Hours period.
• Get a meal prepped and into the slow cooker/oven.
• Charge rechargeable household items such as vacuum cleaners, tools, and devices.
• Run the washing machine, dishwasher and dryer.

Rose's experience shows that a little planning can help turn free electricity into free household jobs, again and again throughout the year.
