Scams - don't get caught out

How much notice do you take of your Aurora Energy bill? Apart from the amount due and the due date, probably not too much.

We get it, bills are not very interesting, but scams becoming more and more prevalent. So, it's worth taking the time to stop, think, and check that what you're looking at is the real deal.

In the past, Tasmanians have received pamphlets in the mail, which at first glance looked a lot like an Aurora Energy bill, prompting some to try and pay a bill which was not theirs. That's why it is very important to double check what you're paying is legitimate. If you're unsure, contact us!

Beware of fake bills and customer service

Many scams succeed because they look and sound like the real thing, and it would be very easy for a scammer to imitate an Aurora Energy bill (by post or email), webpage, or customer service person and trick you into providing personal or financial information.

Top tips to spot an energy bill scam

  • The bill doesn’t look quite right - Is your bill unexpected? Is it missing information you’d normally see on your bill? Are your details correct? If you're unsure, contact us.
  • Payment options are unusual - Your Aurora Energy bill will always have multiple, secure ways to pay with your account number. We’ll never request you pay into a bank account, send pre-paid debit cards, or pay via gift cards.
  • Someone’s threatening to disconnect you -We will never use threats or intimidation to get you to pay, or provide personal or financial information. Read our approach to disconnections here.
  • Links or domain names are suspiciousWe'll only send emails from our official email domain: @auroraenergy.com.au and if we send you an SMS with a link it will always be our full website link https://auroraenergy.com.au or our official short link: https://aenrg.io
  • You get your bill in the mail, when it normally comes via email - or vise versa. Getting your bill via a different delivery method to normal could be a clue that it's a scam.

When we contact you

There are instances Aurora Energy may need to contact you over the phone, or via email, text or letter.  We may contact you to discuss things like:

  • Discuss an ongoing issue, enquiry or complaint.
  • Confirm details around a service requests (like a meter exchange or solar set up).
