Are you a current PAYG customer?

All Aurora PAYG meters across the state are being replaced with advanced meters, and unless you have an existing Aurora PAYG meter or have just moved into a home that still has one in use, you are unable to choose this product. All current Aurora PAYG customers are being asked to select either the new Aurora PAYG+ or one of our other energy products.

How does Aurora PAYG work?

If you move into a property with Aurora PAYG here is how you will recharge your meter:

  1. You will need to call us so we can sign you up to the property and we'll provide you with a code you'll need to pick up your PAYG card
  2. You will then need to go to an Aurora PAYG recharge agent who will provide you with your PAYG card
  3. Charge it up with anything between $5 and $200.
  4. Take it home and charge up your meter.

Easy!

To get your card you'll need to call us on 1300 132 030 and sign up to the property.

When your credit runs out, so does the electricity, so you need to keep an eye on it and make sure you top up in time. In an emergency you can access $18 of emergency credit – which, as the name suggests, can help out in an emergency and give you more time to get to your nearest recharge agent to top up.

If you run out of credit your power will self disconnect until you top up again!

Aurora PAYG meter readings

National electricity rules require APAYG meters to be read every quarter, in the same way standard meters are read.

This does not mean you will get a bill; in all other ways APAYG will remain exactly the same.

If however, TasNetworks can’t access your APAYG meter, you need to discuss your meter access issue with us before the next scheduled meter reading date.

Access to your meter is considered restricted when it is located in an area;

  • inside your house
  • behind a locked gate
  • where you have animals on your property, such as a dog of any size, that are not visibly restrained.

If you’re unsure if the meter reader will have clear and safe access to your APAYG meter, just call us on 1300 13 2003.

It’s a requirement for all Aurora Energy customers to give safe, convenient and unhindered access to a property for the purpose of reading any meter.
