Aurora Energy will provide a further $200,000 to top up the Tasmanian Government’s energy hardship fund to directly support customers who need an extra hand to pay their energy bill.
The fund, administered by The Salvation Army, is close to being exhausted, with emergency relief providers around the state experiencing higher than normal demand for their services as more Tasmanians feel the impacts of cost-of-living pressures.
Both Aurora Energy and the Tasmanian Government are aware of the impacts cost-of-living pressures can place on customers who need help paying their bill.
The recently announced energy relief payments of $250 for eligible households annually over two years, along with measures like the Government’s energy hardship fund, are there to support Tasmanians.
Salvation Army Doorways Manager – Tasmania, Stacey Milbourne, said the additional funding had come at a crucial time and would provide much-needed support for individuals and families.
“The Salvation Army continue to see individuals and families struggling with the rising cost of living. Many are having to make the hard decision whether to heat their homes, buy food or pay rent for the week,” Mrs Milbourne said.
“This funding will make the world of difference for those Tasmanians that are struggling from week to week.”
Aurora Energy CEO Nigel Clark said customers had their unwavering support.
“In these challenging times it’s important we remain true to who we are at our core – Tasmanians supporting Tasmanians,” Mr Clark said.
“As a locally owned and operated energy retailer, we understand the difficulty being felt by Tasmanians and want to reassure customers we’re here to help, whether that’s through the energy hardship fund or our own customer support fund and nation-leading Your Energy Support program.”
Mr Clark encouraged any Aurora customer who may be struggling to keep on top of their bill and are in need of support to get in touch on 1300 13 2003 or visit our Support Page
Today’s announcement comes after Aurora Energy provided $200,000 to the fund in June last year.
