Thousands of snack packs have been assembled for children who would otherwise go without as part of National Volunteer Week 2024.
Aurora Energy has teamed up with St Vincent de Paul Society among many other Tasmanian community organisations for Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering.
The week-long event recognises the important role volunteers play in their communities and encourages people to give volunteering a go.
Vinnies Tas CEO Heather Kent thanked the army of volunteers from Aurora Energy who lent a helping hand to make snack packs to be distributed at their emergency relief office.
“Having Aurora Energy’s support makes a very real difference to the lives of Tasmanians seeking our help. Their dedication to helping others is an example of how businesses can find ways through their networks and skills to help the community,” Ms Kent said.
“The ‘Good Works’ of the Society are driven by members and volunteers who work actively work in the community to combat poverty, inequality and the deep and damaging impacts of social isolation.
“Every part of our organisation relies on volunteers, whether it is delivering emergency relief, manning our food vans, working in our retail outlets or any one of a number of programs across the entire state. Vinnies currently has 1,004 volunteers working with us at present and we can’t thank them enough.”
Aurora Energy has set itself a big challenge across this year’s National Volunteer Week (20-26 May), with the Tassie retailer wanting all 250-plus team members to participate in a volunteering activity.
CEO Nigel Clark said the lofty goal was one way Aurora Energy could give back to the community.
“It’s well known to everyone that our commitment to Tasmania and supporting the Tasmanian community underpins everything we do,” Mr Clark said.
“Along with the great work that we do every day, our volunteering program allows every team member a different way to do this. We encourage them to be active participants in the community to help make a difference.”
Aurora Energy will also be working closely with Aurora Disability, Lifeblood, Salvation Army and Variety Tasmania throughout National Volunteer Week to achieve its goal.
